- Research: FX artists research real-world phenomena and watch reference videos to generate concepts
- Design: FX artists design effects for natural, supernatural, photorealistic, or stylized elements
- Create: FX artists create digital simulations, procedural workflows, and systems for particle, fluid, and destruction/explosion animation
- Integrate: FX artists integrate visual effects into sets and with characters
- Optimize: FX artists optimize FX assets
- Ensure quality: FX artists ensure the artistic and technical quality of the FX
- Document: FX artists create any necessary documentation
- Collaborate: FX artists collaborate with the animation and lighting team to develop an effects library
- Communicate: FX artists communicate with the production team to reinforce deadlines and alert them to any problems
